Identity Released Of OC Inmate Found Dead

SANTA ANA (AP) — Authorities have identified a 28-year-old inmate found dead in his jail cell as Costa Mesa resident Keith Eric Files.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department released Files’ name Wednesday.

The department says Files was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday morning. Deputies and the jail’s medical staff tried to revive him and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Files was booked into the jail Monday afternoon and was being held on a probation violation.

Online court records show Files pleaded guilty in October 2009 to burglary, forgery and fraudulently acquiring someone else’s identity.

Authorities say there were no obvious signs of foul play.

A message was left at the district attorney’s office, which is investigating the death.

Hey Ruben. Keith was a dear friend of mine. He never deserved to die alone in a cell alone. Sometimes people make mistakes that land us in places like those, but you would not understand because obviously your perfect. Why dont you go back to school and take a grammar class or two while your there studying how to have compassion for other people. I hope one day this doesnt happen to someone you love.
