Corona Man Convicted Of Raping Prostitute

WESTMINSTER (AP) — A Riverside County man has been convicted of raping a prostitute and attempting to rape another who stabbed him during a knife fight in his van.

Thirty-year-old Gilberto Cruz Silva of Corona was found guilty Tuesday in Orange County of rape, assault and making criminal threats. He faces up to 36 years to life in prison when he's sentenced next month.

Silva remains jailed Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Silva picked up a prostitute last year in Santa Ana, drove her to a nearby mobile home park, pulled a knife and told her he wanted sex but had no money. Authorities say he raped the woman, who then managed to flee.

Prosecutors say Silva picked up a second woman about two hours later but she also had a knife and defended herself before managing to escape.
