City Council OKs Letter Grades For LA Food Trucks

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The hundreds of food trucks rolling through the streets of Los Angeles may soon add another item to their menus — an A, B or C grade reflecting the cleanliness of their operations.

The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to adopt an ordinance requiring that all food trucks operating within Los Angeles display letter grades obtained from the county Department of Health. That's something brick-and-mortar restaurants already do.

If the ordinance is signed into law by the mayor, officials say the grades would be handed out sometime next year.

The county Board of Supervisors adopted a similar regulation last month governing all food trucks that operate within unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
