God bless the American spirit of innovation:  the  Nevada company Rocky Flats Gear is marketing men’s underwear, specially designed for air passengers going through security checkpoints. Allegedly, the special fig leaf design (above) shields the wearer from radiation, and ridicule, at the X-ray scanner.

Does it work?  Who am I, Pierre Curie? I’m not sure how the shield wouldn’t set off the standard metal detector –leading to the more intrusive examination in the first place — but imagine the good time had by all, when the advanced imaging technology (or, ‘virtual strip search,’ as it’s known in the biz. -Ed.) shows the final image to the TSA scanner. I bet everybody laughs all the way to detention center. But that’s a lot of fun for $20/pair.

Proudly made in the USA, I read somewhere. (Photo source: Rocky Flats Gear)
