RIVERSIDE (AP) — Homicide detectives have a linked a man just sentenced to death for two Virginia murders to a 1990 double murder in Riverside County.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Brown tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise detectives matched the DNA of Alfredo Rolando Prieto to the scene in Rubidoux where young couple Tony Gianuzzi and Stacey Siegrist were dumped after they were shot to death.
The Oct. 4 discovery was not announced until Tuesday so that it would not influence the jury in Fairfax, Virginia, where Prieto was sentenced last week.
Prieto has been on California’s Death Row since 1992 for the rape and murder of a 15-year-old in Ontario. He was extradited to Virginia in 2005 following a DNA match there.
The Riverside County district attorney will decide on any new charges.
