Funeral Service Held For Boy, 5, Killed On Halloween

GARDENA (CBS) — A funeral service will be held Friday for 5-year-old Aaron Shannon Jr., who was shot and killed in the backyard of his South L.A. home on Halloween.

The service, which will begin at City of Refuge in Gardena, will be followed by a 1 p.m. burial at Inglewood Park Cemetery.

Shannon was shot in the head while showing off his Spider-Man costume in the 1000 block of East 84th Street. His grandfather and uncle also were shot, but suffered only minor injuries.

Two reputed gang members, Marcus Denson, 18, and Leonard Hall Jr., 21, have each been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. They are expected to be arraigned next Friday.

The boy died from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to Deputy District Attorney Larry Droeger.

Both men were being held on $4 million bail.

It makes you wonder what kind of animals could kill a child with a bullet to the back of the head? Is there a bigger coward around?

What kind of families did these men come from? I cant imagine anyone would raise something like this. Not only are the young child’s family victims, but so are the families of these young men.

Truely the most inocent of victims – suffering because of other men’s stupidity and selfishness. May you rest in peace – little guy.

This is a sad story, My god bless little Shannon and his family. He will be playing with the Angels now. And for the 2 Jerks, they will spend the rest of their shameful lives in jail where they belong.

ust horrible. This little kid and his family were going to celebrate Holloween, little spiderman off to get his candy, and his life was cut horribly short! 5 YEARS OLD! How could these two idiots think that this family was in a gang!? Is this gang stuff really worth it, guys? All over a color, or a street corner, or a block….what the hell is going on? This little kid didn’t do anything but want to be his favorite superhero for the day and now he is gone, never to graduate high school, have children of his own, nothing. It is such a waste. A wasted of those two young boys lives and this little angel too. All I can do is shake my head and pray that when I have kids of my own, the world will be a little better.

My heart breaks for this little guy and his family and friends. May God comfort you now and for the rest of your lives. God has a handsome new angel in his home….away from this madness that just doesn’t stop. I do hope there is great remorse on behalf of the two involved.
