The winds are howling!
Here is a brief update on our wind event. The worst of it appears to be hitting right now…between the lunch hour and early evening tonight. The warning area extends into the Inland Empire and Santa Ana mountain range in Orange County. Everywhere else it is just an advisory. The difference between the two products is really wind speeds. Sustained speeds on a warning range between 35 and 45 mph…and sustained wind speeds on an advisory are more like 20-30 mph. Gusts have been reported over 50 mph in both the warning and advisory areas.
Here are a few significant gusts in the last 8 hours.
Leo Carillo Beach 55 mph
Burbank 46 mph
Malibu 57 mph
Camarillo 37 mph
City of Orange 59 mph
Ontario airport is reporting blowing dust and wind shear.
You get the idea…the winds will relax tomorrow before kicking up again over the weekend. This is a Santa Ana event, however it is a cold Santa Ana…so temperatures are not rocketing into the 90's. It just means the winds as they move from the northeast to the southwest tap into a cold pool of air. Speaking of cold…there is a freeze watch for the Antelope valley…possible temperatures dipping below 32 degrees for more than two hours before sunrise tomorrow.
