Kings Excelling Despite Missing Out On Kovalchuk

NEWARK, N.J. (CBS/AP) -- To a man, the New Jersey Devils do not believe that they are as poor as their 4-10-2 record indicates.

The frustration reached a boiling point Wednesday night, when $100 million player Ilya Kovalchuk fanned on a shot in the shootout, forcing the Devils to remain winless at home with a 5-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Meanwhile, across the country in Los Angeles, the Kings are a perfect 6-0 at home and are tied for the NHL lead with 20 points.

During the offseason, Los Angeles was a huge player in the services for the Russian winger.

Ultimately, Kovalchuk stayed in New Jersey, which actually relieved many Kings fans who knew it would destroy any roster flexibility the team currently has.

Los Angeles will put its perfect home record on the line tonight as the Dallas Stars come to Staples Center.
