Supermarket Bookkeeper Accused Of Embezzlement

SANTA ANA (AP) — A Southern California bookkeeper and two friends have been charged with embezzling nearly $500,000 from a supermarket chain by funneling phony refund transactions to their personal accounts.

Orange County prosecutors say 28-year-old Tan Dung Tang, a longtime Westminster Superstores bookkeeper, and 32-year-old Chau Lee and 29-year-old Tin Hung Do face arraignment Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Tang illegally processed 171 fraudulent refunds amounting to almost $2,900 each to his personal bank accounts and credit cards, as well as to the accounts of Lee and Do.

Tang and Lee are charged with 33 felony counts, including computer access and fraud charges. They each face up to 24 years in prison if convicted.

Do is charged with four felony counts of computer access and fraud and he could be sentenced to five years if convicted.
