Assemblyman Runs For Dead Woman's State Senate Seat

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A state Assemblyman wants the state Senate seat now filled by a dead woman.

Voters in the 28th District, which includes Long Beach and Marina del Rey, re-elected Jenny Oropeza last week, even though she died in October.

Democratic Assemblyman Ted Lieu of Torrance announced Tuesday that he'll run when the governor calls a special election next year to fill Oropeza's seat.

The Los Angeles Times says Assemblyman Warren Furitani of Gardena and Los Angeles City Council member Janice Hahn also are considering whether to run but they haven't formally announced their candidacies.
