Cal State Trustees Consider 15.5 Percent Tuition Hike

LONG BEACH (AP) — California State University trustees will consider whether to boost tuition 15.5 percent by next fall to offset cuts in state funding.

Chancellor Charles Reed is proposing to raise tuition 5 percent in the winter and spring terms and another 10 percent starting next fall.

Trustees from the board's finance committee will vote on the proposal Tuesday in Long Beach. The full board will vote on the plan Wednesday.

CSU has raised tuition four times since 2007 as it struggles with a drop in state funding.

The new tuition increases would raise about an additional $175 million annually for CSU.
