Coroner Examines Suspected Remains Of Missing Woman
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Experts are trying to confirm that skeletal remains found in a canyon in northern Los Angeles County belong to a college student who vanished nearly 10 years ago.
Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says an anthropologist, a dental specialist and a pathologist began the exam Monday. DNA and dental tests will determine if the bones are those of 20-year-old Lynsie Ekelund.
Her mother, Nancy Ekelund, has said she recognized a bracelet found with the body.
The remains were found last week in Santa Clarita Canyon after a friend allegedly confessed to strangling Ekelund in 2001 and burying her there.
Christopher McAmis has been charged with killing the Fullerton College student and remains jailed pending a Nov. 30 arraignment.
