SACRAMENTO (AP) — Four days after he prematurely claimed victory, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley is trailing by more than 17,000 votes in the race for state attorney general.

The race between Cooley and San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris could remain too close to call for several weeks. The secretary of state’s office said Friday that more than 2.3 million late or provisional ballots must be counted before the end of the month.

Harris leads Cooley by two-tenths of a percentage point among the more than 7 million ballots tallied so far. A victory by Harris would give Democrats a sweep of statewide offices.

California’s size makes the position influential on a national scale.

The comment you left is very indicating of the person you must be, and for all of the anglo americans that I imagine are opposing her for the position, this country will no longer stand for people like you. People who prefer to have a George Bush or an Arnold that leave our State and Country in the mess that I for one have never seen before. The republicans orchestrated a recall and ousted Grey Davis and we got Republican Arnold for Governor and California BROKE. The republicans fixed an election and we got Republican George Bush for President and the United States BROKE!

The problem I have with Ms Kamala Harris is her opposition to the death penalty. Why do we have to pay for the upkeep of those low-life killers who do not deserve to live. We will have to build more prisons just to house and maintain them with our taxes. There are far more urgent and necessary applications of our tax monies.

While I am not opposed to the death penalty, do you really think that putting all those people wait on death row will balance the budget? I think not. What California needs is a government that is fiscally responsible, and will follow the mandate set forth in the state constitution. Fund education first, and then state debt (bonds), then fire protection, then police. Do not blame just the Democrats; the Republicans are just as much to blame.

Prosecute George Bush for murder and wasting the taxpayers money for causing the death of our troops by sending them in under false pretenses. Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi LA Prosecuter of Charles Manson and others wrote a book laying out the prosecution of Georg Bush Jr. You should read it.
