3.7-Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Long Beach

LONG BEACH (AP) — A small earthquake has shaken Long Beach and nearby areas of Southern California.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-3.7 tremor occurred at 9:06 a.m. Friday about 11 1/2 miles beneath the port city on the south Los Angeles County coast. It was initially estimated at 3.8.

Port of Long Beach spokesman John Pope says there are no indications of any damage to the harbor.

Pope says the quake was a single jolt.

The USGS' Internet-based citizen reporting system indicates the quake was felt throughout Los Angeles and neighboring counties.
