18 Pounds Of Opium Seized From Shipment Of Stools At LAX

LOS ANGELES (AP) — More than 18 pounds of opium have been found hidden inside a shipment of rattan stools at Los Angeles International Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents said Thursday that they found the opium during inspection of a shipment from Thailand on Oct. 29.

The Daily Breeze in Torrance says X-rays detected something wrong with the shipment of 22 small rattan stools. One chair contained eight packages of opium and opium was then extracted in the upper rims of the remaining stools.

The estimated value of the opium is about $109,000.
