USC Student Who Fell From Dorm Had Been Partying At Rave

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The USC freshman critically injured in a six-story fall from his dorm room window was reportedly partying at the two-day "Hard Haunted Mansion" rave over Halloween weekend.

The 18-year-old student fell from the Birnkrant Residential College early Monday, according to USC Department of Public Safety Sgt. Robert Posslenzny. The student, identified in an email sent to some of the dorm's residents as Jackson Roddy, remains hospitalized with multiple broken bones and internal injuries.

Roddy spent two nights at a Los Angeles rave over the Halloween weekend, according to the Los Angeles Times. The "Hard Haunted Mansion 2010" was held at the Shrine Auditiorium and Expo Hall.

Roddy was transferred Monday to California Hospital, where doctors stabilized him and assessed his injuries, according to USC Vice President for Student Affairs Michael L. Jackson.

According to the Times, authorities said it appeared Roddy consumed alcohol marijuana and Ecstasy over the two-day electronic music festival.

Roddy's roommate told police he was asleep when he heard a window screen being removed in the dorm room, then awoke to discover his roommate had fallen out.

Officials say they have not determined a direct connection between the rave and the student's fall.

Electronic music festivals in the Southland have been under scrutiny since June, when a 15-year-old girl died of an overdose of Ecstasy at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Roddy was pledging to Sigma Nu fraternity, the Daily Trojan reported. Brian Huefner, the president of Sigma Nu, said he was working to ensure other fraternity members receive counseling and support.
