LA County Voters Reelect Deceased Senator

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Voters in Los Angeles County have reelected a state senator who died last month, setting up a special election to fill the vacant seat.

The heavily Democratic 28th Senate District stuck with Sen. Jenny Oropeza, a Democrat from Long Beach who died at age 53 of complications from a blood clot.

Oropeza was the choice of 54 percent of voters on Tuesday, defeating Republican John Stammreich.

If a majority had chosen Stammreich, he would have won without the need for a special election.

The coastal Los Angeles County district includes Torrance and Redondo Beach.

Oropeza missed most of this year’s Senate session because of the clot found in her abdomen in May.

Only in California, and here I thought most politicians were deceased or at least brian dead.

    1. Abby Normal says:

I don’t know if Brian is dead as you state, but I’ll agree that many politicians are brain dead.

  2. Kevin says:

This just highlights the ignorance of the normally uninformed, California voters.

    1. Mike says:

So are you saying that voters should have voted for Stammreich just because Oropeza passed away? Really? Who’s the true ignorant here???

  3. Abby Normal says:

    hilarious

Only in La La land does this happen-DUMB and DUMBER in complete control!

  5. wobbles says:

nice knee-jerk liberal democratic stupidity. And the rest just voting for the party that keeps sending them welfare checks no matter what.

  6. Bob Saget says:

Actually, in this case you would vote against the living opponent. Even though the deceased candidate cant take office, the opponent cant either. Meaning that they dont win by default, which is not the way a democracy works. Brain dead? No. Brian dead? Dont think so either. Stupid is voting for someone you were opposed to just because the other person running for office passed away, thats just plain ignorant. Bob Saget has spoken.

It’s funny how all of you calling others stupid are reluctant to realize that they did it for a reason. It’s not that they voted for a dead person, it’s that they voted Democrat. I’m assuming by all of your stupid responses that you didn’t graduate high school or at least take basic government. You’d refrain from posting such stupid comments otherwise.

Just goes to show you How Stupid or Uninformed The Voting Public is!
