Uncle: Custody Dispute Preceded Crash That Killed Teen, Baby

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Relatives say a heated custody dispute may have prompted a driver to crash his pickup truck into a Los Angeles home, killing his newborn daughter and her teenage mother.

Eduardo Bonilla identified his niece as 19-year-old Trudy Bonilla and her 10-day-old daughter as Naomi Bonilla. Both died after Naomi's father sped his truck into a corner bedroom in Boyle Heights late Sunday night.

Bonilla says hours before the crash, the driver threatened to kill his niece and her daughter because she wouldn't give him custody.

Bonilla says the driver and his niece had dated for about 18 months, but broke up about three months ago.

The driver, who Bonilla knew only as Victor, remains hospitalized after his arrest but is expected to survive.
