Assembly Candidate Jeff Gorrell Recalled To Afghanistan
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A candidate for the state Assembly from Southern California and member of the Naval Reserve has been recalled to service in Afghanistan.
Republican Jeff Gorrell announced Saturday that he will begin one year of active duty overseas on March 18, 2011.
It will be Gorrell's second one-year deployment. He served in Bahrain and Afghanistan from 2001 to 2002.
Gorrell says he will continue running for the Assembly seat in the 37th District, which covers parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. He assures voters he would put a staff in place to carry out legislative work in his absence.
Gorrell faces Democrat Ferial Masry in Tuesday's election.
