2 Arrests After Deputy Shot At During Traffic Stop
LANCASTER (AP) — Authorities say two people have been arrested after allegedly attempting to shoot a sheriffs deputy during a routine traffic stop in Lancaster.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say a deputy tried to pull a car over early Saturday because the vehicle didn't have a front license plate.
As the deputy pulled behind the car, he heard two shots and saw a muzzle flash. The suspects sped off but were eventually taken into custody without incident.
They were identified as 25-year-old Christopher Orlando and 26-year-old Shayla Janelle Harper.
The Los Angeles Times reports a TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun was found loaded near the corner where the firing took place, and investigators found a jammed round in the chamber.
The Sheriffs Department says Orlando, who was a gang member, is on parole.
