1 Killed In Crash Involving Big Rig In Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBS) — A 27-year-old man killed in a crash with a big rig truck in Sylmar was identified Sunday by the coroner’s office.

Christian M. Medina of Sylmar drove his car into the back of a 53-foot big rig trailer in the 14400 block of Foothill Boulevard late Saturday afternoon, Coroner’s Investigator Jerry McKibben said.

Medina was pronounced dead at the scene, L.A. Fire Department Spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The truck may have been parked at the time of the crash, Humphrey said.

Foothill Boulevard was closed in both directions between Bledsoe and Roxford streets after the accident, Humphrey said.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.

Sucks, probably texting or talking on the phone. Foothill is a wide/open street and its hard not to spot a big truck parked on the side of said road.

To Mr. Sagot. I doubt it. The Next time you write some generic “I bet it’s his fault” comment just remember that someone died and his family and loved ones are grieving. To his Family: Chris was above all else, Selfless. Tragic to leave at 27. Just like the Rock Gods he loved. My heart and prayers go to his beloved family.

I live off of foothill, 40 seconds away from the accident. People fly down foothill like if it was part of the 210 FW. Dude must have been listening to the jams and not paying attention to the parked cars. Sucks

Rest in Peace Christian M. Medina.

He was a great guy- getting ready to take his EMT test. He helped others, was a compassionate and generous young man. He will be missed.

  • bystander

I was getting out of my car when I heard him zoom by. He was definitely speeding, when seconds later we heard a small screech with a loud bang. Guy did not even have a chance to react. Must of gotten distracted on the turn. Sucks

I found out about this horrible tragedy from my mom yesterday. Chris’ dad is my mom’s cousin. It’s a shame that I never got to meet Chris…from what I’ve been told, he was a real nice guy. My condolences go out to all his family & friends. May you rest in peace.
