Driver Faces Criminal Charges For Ramming Into School Bus

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Criminal charges have been filed against a man accused of intentionally ramming a school bus head-on in Southern California in an apparent suicide attempt.

The Press-Enterprise says the Riverside County district attorney's office on Thursday filed eight felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon against Joseph Anthony Garcia.

Authorities say the 44-year-old Garcia tried to climb a fence on a State Route 60 overpass in Pedley on Oct. 20 in an apparent attempt to leap onto the freeway below, but failed. He then drove his car the wrong way on an off-ramp and into the Jurupa Unified School District bus carrying eight people.

Three students and the bus driver were treated for minor injuries. Garcia received moderate injuries.

Garcia is being held on $25,000 bail.
