Whitman Makes World Series Bet With Texas Governor

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Meg Whitman doesn't need an election win to make a World Series wager with Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The GOP candidate for California governor on Wednesday made a bet with Perry, a fellow Republican, over the San Francisco Giants-Texas Rangers series, which begins Wednesday night.

It will be a surfboard for Perry if the Rangers win and cowboy boots for Whitman if the Giants prevail.

The former eBay CEO, trailing Democrat Jerry Brown in the polls, regularly praises what she says is a business-friendly climate in Texas that draws companies from California.

California's actual governor -- Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger -- has no plans for a wager.

A spokesman says he is instead betting against Proposition 23, an initiative supported by Texas oil companies that would suspend California's greenhouse gas emissions law.
