SoCal Councilman Guilty Of Corruption

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — A city councilman in Rancho Cucamonga has been convicted of corruption and ordered to immediately resign his position.

A San Bernardino County jury on Wednesday convicted Rex Gutierrez of four counts of grand theft, conspiracy and filing a fraudulent claim.

Prosecutors say Gutierrez submitted $147,000 worth of phony pay and expense reports while he was employed by the county assessor's office from 2007 to 2009. He's one of five former assessor's employees facing criminal charges.

His first trial in June ended in a jury deadlock.

He's free on bail but could face years several years in prison when he's sentenced in December.

Outside court, Gutierrez told the San Bernardino Sun that he disagrees with the verdict and isn't the person jurors think he is.
