Police Chief Tells Sex Offenders To Avoid Trick-Or-Treaters

MURRIETA (AP) — Murrieta police Chief Mark Wright is warning registered child sex offenders to avoid kids trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Wright has mailed letters to the 43 residents of the Riverside County community suggesting they leave
the porch light off on Halloween and post a sign saying they aren't giving out candy.

The letter says it's a way to "avoid any unnecessary allegations of impropriety with minors."

Lt. Bob Davenport says the letters went to registered child sex offenders. The lieutenant says there hasn't been a history of Halloween sex crimes and the letters were sent out only as a precaution.
