Bell City Clerk Rebecca Valdez said Tuesday the certified petitions will be given to the City Council, which must now schedule an election that could oust most of its members.

She says the council is expected to take up the issue Monday.

The petition drive was launched last August, soon after the Los Angeles Times reported that several elected officials and administrators were being paid huge salaries.

Four council members have since been arrested. One has resigned.
