Alleged 'King of Heroin' Enters Not Guilty Plea

VENTURA (AP) — The man accused of being Mexicos "King of Heroin" has pleaded not guilty in Ventura County to a drug smuggling charge.

Jose Antonio Medina Arreguin entered his plea Friday in Superior Court to a charge of conspiracy to transport heroin for sale and a special allegation that the drugs exceeded 40 kilos.

The 36-year-old is not eligible for bail, under an immigration hold routinely placed on suspects who are not legal U.S. residents.

Arreguin tearfully told the Ventura County Star the charges against him are "lies."

He is scheduled to make his next court appearance Dec. 9.
