Police Fatally Shoot Man In Santa Monica After He Allegedly Shot A Woman

SANTA MONICA (CBS) — Authorities in Santa Monica Friday reported that police opened fire and killed a man they say had shot and wounded a woman moments before.

They also said the man fired his gun at police.

The first shooting occurred about 6:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Lincoln Boulevard, between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, behind an Arby’s restaurant, Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

The man allegedy shot the woman several times. Police were dispatched to look for him, Lewis said.

Officers encountered the suspect  in the 1400 block of Ninth Street, near
Broadway, and he opened fire on the officers, Lewis said.

Two Santa Monica police officers returned fire and the suspect was fatally wounded, Lewis said.

The wounded woman was undergoing surgery at a hospital, Lewis said. She and the man who shot her were both believed to be in their 30s, Lewis said. Their relationship was not immediately clear.

Anyone with information about what preceded the shootings was urged to
call Santa Monica police at (310) 458-8491.

WHY is it that when the cops shoot a bad guy it’s a “shooting” but when the perp shoots someone it’s always “aledged”?

Hey Lukkkee the reason why its called a shooting is because when Law enforcing agencies engage in the pulling or use of their weapons it has to be reported for the indemnity of the officers involved and the Department he represents.
On the other side when a perpetrator shoots someone he is still protected under “Due Process” of the Law. Innocent until Proven Guilty. Trust me you’d want that if you were accused of something whether you did it or not. Our system is flawed in many ways but it still works better than most places on the Globe.
