Whitman: Brown Lies About My Immigration Views

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is telling South Los Angeles metal workers that her Democratic opponent is lying about her stance on immigration.

Whitman told Spanish-speaking workers on Thursday that Jerry Brown lied when he said she supports Arizona's tough new law to curb illegal immigration. But Whitman also says she doesn't support allowing illegals to get driver's licenses.

Whitman has said she supports Arizona's right to enact its own laws but would not sign such a law in California. Of Brown, she said, "He's just out there telling lies."

Whitman has been courting the state's Latino community in the run-up to the Nov. 2 election and told workers that she cannot win without Hispanic support.
