LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Singer Melissa Etheridge and actor Danny Glover are among the celebrities coming out in favor of Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana in California for recreational use by adults.

At a news conference in Hollywood on Thursday, Etheridge, Glover and other performers weighed in on the looming vote on Prop. 19, saying marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol, and adults should have the option to use it.

Etheridge also said she learned about the medicinal benefits of cannabis when she used it to combat the side effects of chemotherapy while she was fighting breast cancer.
