LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man accused of helping smuggle hundreds of illegal immigrants into the United States could face up to 10 years in federal prison.

Gustavo Sanchez-Lopez of Guatemala is scheduled to be sentenced Monday afternoon in Los Angeles. He pleaded guilty in June to federal charges of conspiracy to harbor and conceal illegal immigrants.

Sanchez-Lopez and two other men were arrested in January at a home in the south Los Angeles suburb of Lynwood. They allegedly were guarding 37 illegal immigrants inside.

Prosecutors claim the home was a drop house for illegal immigrants from Central and South America, who were threatened with beatings or death unless relatives paid smuggling fees as high as $13,000.

Where are the 37 illegals that this guy was “Guarding”? Were they all deported or are they still here working at the car wash? As a human smuggler, we need to make an example so the boys back home think twice before they decide to get into this line of work.

Why isn’t Jerry Brown being tried for allowing these “illegal Immigrants” to live, work and study here in California? He is just as guilty if not more because he is an elected official. What a farce!!! He won’t be getting my vote!

I’ll go for the life without parole but he should do his sentence in Guatemala. That way he can spread the word about smuggling and we don’ have to pay for him.

This guy needs to do his time in a South American prison. Not in in”CLUB FED” where they lay around everyday and watch Oprah. They get 3 meals a day plus a nice bunk.
This guy needs to do some real hard time. Send him to Sheriff Joe in Arizona.
