Long Beach Police Officer Accused Of DUI

WESTMINSTER (CBS) — Authorities are accusing a Long Beach police officer of driving under the influence while off-duty in Garden Grove.

Eddie Sanchez, 30, faces up to six months in jail if convicted of misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .15 percent or more, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Sanchez allegedly left a Long Beach bar about 4:30 p.m. on May 24, got into his 2003 Nissan Altima and was driving erratically before he stopped at a red light.

According to prosecutors, Sanchez then failed to go after the light changed to green.

Several drivers behind him honked and one of the motorists eventually walked up tohis car, reached inside and turned off the ignition, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Sanchez's blood-alcohol level was measured at .16, twice the legal limit, according to prosecutors.
