Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Big Rig In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBS) — Santa Ana police say a man has died after being struck by a flatbed big-rig truck Friday morning.

The accident happened at 1500 N. Harbor Blvd. at about 6:30 a.m., Santa Ana police Commander Jeff Owens said. The man was crossing the northbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard near Westminster Avenue.

The pedestrian was not crossing in a crosswalk when he was struck by the truck and may have been hit by other vehicles as well, police said.

Owens says the man, who is approximately 50 to 60 years of age, suffered a massive head wound and was rushed to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The truck driver stopped and was interviewed by police. The investigation is ongoing.
