Michael Jackson's Name Once Again Adorns Elementary School

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Jackson's name is shining once again at a Hollywood elementary school.

Boards were placed over the Michael Jackson Auditorium sign at Gardner Street Elementary School when the late entertainer was charged with child molestation in 2003. It remained covered after his acquittal.

Since Jackson's death last year, fans had clamored that the boards be removed and on Friday they got their wish.

School district Superintendant Ramon Cortines directed the cover to be removed "in recognition of Michael Jackson's musical legacy and contribution to modern culture."

The Gardner auditorium was dedicated to Jackson in 1989. He had once attended the school.
