Malibu Helps Out Family Hit Hard By Health, Financial Problems

MALIBU( CBS) — Members of the Malibu community are coming together to help out one family hit with a one-two punch of recession and health problems.

Residents Traci Donat, Tammi Jacob and Apryl Prose are hosting an Oct. 15 fundraising party and silent auction for the Sandoval Family at the Malibu West Beach Club, 30756 W. Pacific Coast Highway, on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.

Lorie Sandoval was diagnosed earlier this year with late-stage ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease and no longer has use of her arms and legs and her speech is slurred. Her husband, Leo, who owns door-and-window company, is struggling to care for her, while raising their 12-year-old daughter, Sadie, and navigate the confusing world of health care.

The Sandovals are behind on house payments and aren't getting a lot of help from health insurance companies, so Malibu's moms decided to step in with a fundraiser that will feature appearances by "The Bold and the Beautiful" actress Lesley-Anne Down and singer Rick Springfield.

RSVP to the event by contacting Tammi Jacob or Traci Donat at SandovalFamilyParty@gmail.com. Donations can also be sent in, checks payable to Lorie Sandoval Family Fund, to P.O. Box 2122, Malibu, CA 90265.
