LA Marks 10,000th High-Tech Parking Meter

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Councilman Tom LaBonge announced the completion on Thursday of the installation of 10,000 coin-and-credit-card parking meters throughout the city.

Officials say the new meters — which are completely solar-powered — should bring more cash to the city and are likely to eventually eliminate all the old-fashioned models.

    Does anybody but me feel offended when a city charges citizens to park on a street that the citizens paid for? Not only paid for but continue to maintain. Parking meters should be ruled unconstitutional as they are taking public land without paying for it. Also, if your car is broken into, shouldn’t the city be responsible since they are in a bailment situation?
