Carlsbad Workers Honored For Tackling Suspect On Playground

CARLSBAD (AP) — Three construction workers who tackled a suspected gunman on a Southern California school playground have been greeted with hugs from parents and children.

The crowd outside Kelly Elementary in Carlsbad yelled "Viva Kelly" on Monday while handing out baskets and flowers to their hometown heroes.

The workers are credited with tackling Brendan O'Rourke, who has been arrested for investigation of opening fire on children at the playground Friday. Two girls were hit in the arms and were expected to recover.

During the ceremony, one student ran out of the crowd to give one worker a high-five before two grateful parents offered him hugs.
