SUV Crashes Through Wall, Lands Upside Down In Glendale

GLENDALE (AP) — An 83-year-old motorist is alive after his SUV crashed through the wall of his Glendale condo's parking structure, then plunged one story to the pavement, landing on its roof.

Police and condo security say the man's 2003 Land Rover rammed through the retaining wall of a second-story garage at about 9 a.m. Friday. The accident occurred on the 300 block of Pioneer Drive, Glendale police spokesman Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The man had bumps, bruises and cuts to his face and was hospitalized in stable condition, Lorenz said.

His name wasn't immediately released.

"Cars are built to new standards of safety," Glendale Fire Capt. Steve Dobbs  said. "It's amazing what we see people walk away from."

Lorenz says the man was physically fit and may have been pulling into his parking spot after returning from a karate class.
