Police Officer Convicted In Norwalk Hit And Run

NORWALK (AP) — A Los Angeles police officer has been convicted of leaving the scene of an accident in a 2008 hit-and-run in a Saugus parking lot.

A jury in Norwalk deliberated 2 1/2 days before finding William Skett guilty Thursday of the felony charge. Jurors also found true a special allegation of causing great bodily injury, but hung on a charge of DUI causing injury. He was acquitted of a third felony count, driving with a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level.

Prosecutors say Skett hit a man and woman as he was backing his Hummer out of a parking spot and fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle.

Skett was arrested a short time later at his home.

He faces up to six years in prison at his Jan. 13 sentencing.
