2 Suicides Reported In 2 Days At LA County Jail

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The second suicide in as many days has been reported at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.

The Sheriff's Department says a 29-year-old inmate was pronounced dead Tuesday after he was found at around 5:20 a.m.

The inmate, whose name was not released, was sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty last year to assault with a deadly weapon. He also was found guilty of robberies and carjacking and was scheduled to be sentenced Friday for those crimes.

Authorities say a 40-year-old man was found dead in his cell Monday. The department says he left a note, but did not say why he had committed suicide. He had been arrested for parole violations.

Both cases are under investigation.
