PERRIS (AP) — Riverside County authorities are searching for a Russian skydiver who went missing after a planned weekend jump.
A helicopter and searchers on horseback and all-terrain vehicles on Friday are searching a field near Perris Valley Airport for Vladimir Forlov.
Authorities say the 51-year-old skydiver is believed was visiting the area and made a solo parachute jump on Saturday.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Smith tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise that a skydiving firm notified authorities on Thursday after noticing that Forlov’s rented car was still at the airport.
Smith says Forlov’s passport was found in the car.
Smith says it’s possible that a solo skydiver could crash in the area — which has a wooded thicket and a wash — without anyone realizing it.
