Bear Struck By Car Later Euthanized
DESERT HOT SPRINGS (AP) — Police say a driver struck a bear that was later euthanized in Riverside County.
Desert Hot Springs police found the injured bear around 3 a.m. Friday. Sgt. Gus Paiz says there were broken car parts such as a bumper all around the bear. Animal experts tranquilized, examined then euthanized the bear because of severe injuries.
Desert Hot Springs is about 100 miles east of Los Angeles.
Riverside County Animal Services officers say they believe the motorist drove off without alerting authorities.
The law in California requires drivers to stop if they strike an animal, calling for help so the animal gets immediate help. Paiz says drivers are also law-bound to remain at the scene of an accident.
