LA Council Bans Supergraphic Signs In Hollywood
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles City Council members have prohibited new giant advertisements in a large swath of Hollywood.
Tuesday's unanimous vote came about a year after the council passed a citywide ban on new billboards that left out the so-called Hollywood Signage Supplemental Use District.
The Hollywood ban applies specifically to the massive outdoor signs known as supergraphics.
A spokesman for Councilman Eric Garcetti, whose district includes Hollywood, says up to 16 new supergraphics may still be installed because they were approved before the ban.
Separately on Tuesday, a federal judge denied a motion by billboard company Vanguard Outdoor challenging the city's ability to enforce its billboard ban. Vanguard had argued the ban violates its rights to free expression and equal protection.
