Autopsy Pending On Elderly Man Killed In Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE (CBS) — An autopsy was pending Sunday on an elderly man found dead inside his Hawthorne home Friday evening.

Hawthorne police responded to a home in the 4100 of West 137th Street after receiving a call around 8:20 p.m., Deputy Mark Page said.

The victim, an 80-year-old man, was identified by neighbors as John Marco. Neighbors said he was home with his wife when a break in occurred and his wife ran outside screaming for help.

Victim Described As Kind, Gentle Man, KNX 1070’s Chris Sedens reports.

Neighbors described the victim, who was the owner and landlord of two other units, as a kind and gentle man who had trouble walking and getting around.

Detectives said it appeared a burglary or home invasion took place and then turned violent. Family members were taking an inventory of the couple’s belongings to try to figure out what was stolen.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Hawthorne police.
