SoCal Gas Making It Easier To Find Pipelines

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California Gas is making it easier for utility customers to locate high-pressure underground pipelines.

This month's San Bruno explosion and fire that destroyed 37 homes and killed four people prompted the Los Angeles City Council to ask about resident access to information about the age and location of neighborhood pipelines.

The Los Angeles Times says Southern California Gas pipeline integrity manager Doug Schneider told the council on Tuesday that the federal National Pipeline Mapping System is already available online, but he concedes it's difficult to navigate.

Schneider says the gas company will put similar information on its own site.
