Sheriff's Homicide Detective Eddie Brown said the suspect was under the influence of drugs, and drugs were found on him after he was subdued.

The Taser use-of-force reportedly occurred just before 1 a.m. in the 14700 block of Firestone Boulevard.

Brown said deputies saw a suspicious man in the parking lot of an Extended Stay Hotel. They made contact with the suspect, who responded by allegedly assaulting one of the deputies.

A short foot pursuit ensued which culminated in a second assault on another deputy by the suspect. Deputies eventually used a Taser gun to subdue the man, said Brown.

The suspect was taken to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital where he later died. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An investigation will be conducted by a number of agencies including the Los Angeles County District Attorney, the Department of Coroner, as well as the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and their Internal Affairs Bureau.

The final reports on this Taser death will then be reviewed by Sheriff Lee Baca's Executive Force Review Committee, according to the Sheriff's Department.
