AZUSA (AP) — Investigators say a Southern California woman killed in a rollover freeway crash had stopped in a bar for drinks before hurrying out to get ready for a court-ordered DUI class.

The California Highway Patrol says Lidia Kopach, who was convicted of drunken driving a year ago, consumed two vodka drinks and split two pitchers of beer at a Monrovia bar before the deadly crash at 2 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 210 in Azusa.

The Pasadena Star-News says Kopach told 24-year-old Daniel Martinez, who was slightly injured in the crash, that she needed to get home and for some sleep because she had to attend a court-ordered DUI education class on Thursday.

Martinez told CHP investigators he repeatedly asked Kopach to slow down before the crash.

better her than other innocent family. Doesn’t this happen all the time, the drunk drivers getting away and others being killed?

  • vnoifvet7006

Oh well!!!! Will she now be arrested for not going or having completed the class? About time the drunk driver got killed instead of the passangers.

This is caused by a lack of knowing God, if God had of been her foundation she would not have been drunk. When God was taken out of the public eye the crime went up and the drunk drivers killed more. God is the way, the truth and the light to all who seek Him.

    Deport DUI offenders.

  • Margery

Why and how is it that all high-risk abusers, are not monitored more agressively? What ever happened to takeing away their licenses, as well as a court ordered installation of an auto cut-off swith in her car (the ones that are linked to a breathalizer on the dashboard). Or for that matter, the good old alcohol-level monitering ankle bracelet?

If the city claims it doesn’t have the money to do this, or is it going to come up with far more money to settle law suits from victim’s familys? Anyway, let’s just be glad she was her first victim, and not her last, as so often happens.

    What a dumb drunk……

To many people with DUI on their records get released and they do it again and again. They should have their drivers licenses revoked for 1 year and wear that bracelet around the ankle that monitors if they drink or not. Make them take public transportation during that time so they won’t kill an innocent person. The celebs get the royal treatment be it drugs or alcohol related incidents. The normal person would be treated differently.

Good for her – one less moron on the road. My mother was killed by a drunk driver so I have no pity for these reckless beings.

  • vudu

Yep, all the innocent people around her got off lucky this time. Good ridance to her.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m due back on the planet eart.

@JackieW – God Had Nothing To Do With it! STOP YOUR MORALIZING ALREADY!! Your views are simplistic and inaccurate.
