'Bubble Wrap Bandit' Wanted In 3 Bank Robberies

LA MIRADA (CBS) — Authorities are looking to pop the Bubble Wrap Bandit, who is wanted for bank robberies in La Mirada, Bell Gardens and South Gate.

The most recent robbery happened Tuesday in La Mirada at the Bank of the West at Valley View Boulevard and Imperial Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect handed the teller a note demanding money and saying he had a gun. He fled in a red car with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as Hispanic or Samoan, 35-40 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches and 220 pounds. He got his nickname because he was carrying an envelope lined with bubble-wrap during at least one of the crimes.

He is believed to have robbed another bank in South Gate on July 22, and banks in Bell Gardens on June 14 and on Nov. 25 of last year.

Anyone with more information on the case can call Detective Manuel Flores, (562) 902-2976 or (562) 863-8711; the FBI at (888) CANT HIDE; or Crime Stoppers, (800) 222-TIPS.
