LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck promises to accelerate the department’s investigation into the fatal police shooting of a Guatemalan immigrant.
The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that Beck told the civilian board overseeing the LAPD that the inquiry into the shooting of Manuel Jaminez would be finished much sooner than the eight months it typically takes investigators.
The killing of Jaminez sparked three nights of protests that sometimes turned violent. Activists say the shooting of Jaminez, who police say was drunk and armed with a knife, was unjustified and he should have been disarmed without being killed.
Also Tuesday, a coalition of activist groups wrote to the district attorney requesting a criminal investigation into the shooting.

True Connie…geez don’t cops get to do their jobs anymore. If he’d killed the lady, they would’ve blamed cops for doing nothing. Next time riots break out, send INS / ICE trucks with big logos n the crowd will scatter. If you don’t like LA policing, move to AZ!!!

Yeah, let’s not like about this, you piece of crap. We all know you’re just doing your best to figure out how to cover it up, before any REAL investigating goes on. I demand Transparency, of the highest level, and I believe that it is the right of the family(ies) involved as well.
How you can sit back and provide us with such little information, and continually push us beyond our limits of patience is absolutely and truly selfish and contrived.
The truth is, you get a badge, you get a gun, and now all of the sudden you’re unstoppable, impermeable, and eventually, a mercenary.
I simply cannot understand how [as a general populous] we can continually sit around and allow these things to occur, yet demand no transparency in the matter.
Please, someone update and or inform me, as I feel I’m blinded by the dark without possibility for vindication.
