Across town, Pepperdine University will host a brief prayer service at
the Heroes Garden, a 14,880-square-foot outdoor garden honoring victims of the
attacks. The university will display one flag for each of the nearly 3,000
people who died.

In Santa Monica, 20-minute 9/11 remembrance ceremonies will be held at
fire stations on Seventh Street, Hollister Avenue, 19th Street and Ashland
Avenue.

The Long Beach fire and police departments will hold a 9/11 ceremony to
remember those who lost their lives. The Beverly Hills City Council will host a
Day of Remembrance at the Beverly Hills Fire Department headquarters, featuring
remarks from Sen. Fran Pavley, D-Santa Monica, and Assemblyman Mike Feuer, D-
West Hollywood. The council will also break ground on a memorial that will
include a piece of steel from the World Trade Center towers.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and hundreds of volunteers will participate
in two service projects in South Los Angeles: a community clean up, mural
painting and plaque dedication at the Stanford-Avalon Farm and the completion
of the garden at Gompers Middle School.

WeAreChangeLA will distribute DVDs at three "Truth" stations around the
Santa Monica Pier area as part of its "9/11 Truth 2010" event.

In the evening, LAFD fire station 88 on Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman
Oaks will host its annual Sept. 11 candlelight vigil and remembrance ceremony
for fallen firefighters. The fire station -- the home of Task Force I, an elite
squad of Urban Search and Rescue teams that deployed to Ground Zero -- has an
exterior 9/11 memorial, which includes a plaque and a steel girder from the
World Trade Center.

The 9/11 Memorial Fountain at the Sherman Oaks fire station is the only
certified 9/11 memorial in the state that has artifacts from both the World
Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The fountain boasts a 750-pound steel girder from the Trade Center and a
block of limestone from the Pentagon, both of which are embedded in a tiled
fountain in front of the facade of the fire station.
